Frequently Asked Questions

Is the FGSF scholarship directed towards STEM students only or are students in any major eligible?

  • Only STEM students are being considered at this time. However, future plans to expand this opportunity to non-STEM majors are being considered.

What are criteria for applying to the program?

  • Students whose parent(s) have not graduated from a 4-year university regardless of other family members’ level of education

  • Students transferring from Compton College, East Los Angeles College, Los Angeles City College, Los Angeles Trade and Technical College, or Pasadena City College, to either Cal State LA or Cal State Northridge

  • Students pursuing a bachelor's degree in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) discipline

  • Students who have completed all required first and second year courses in their major

  • Students who have an overall Community College GPA of at least 2.5

  • Students who qualify for in-state tuition in the California State University system

Will students from other community colleges and/or transferring to a different 4-year university be eligible to apply in the future?

  • Currently only students transferring from Compton College, East Los Angeles College, Los Angeles City College, Los Angeles Trade and Technical College, or Pasadena City College  to California State University, Los Angeles, or California State University, Northridge  are eligible. However, FGSF envisions the answer to be YES in the future.

Who will select the awardees?

  • Awardees will be selected by the members of the FGSF Board of Directors.

     

Who will administer the scholarship and disburse money?

  • Money will be disbursed by the university's financial aid office and the FGSF office.
