2025-2027 Scholars

Moira Iñiguez
Transferred to Cal State Los Angeles from Compton College. She is majoring in Mechanical Engineering with interests in Robotics and Ocean Engineering. She says “I am going to use my education to contribute to engineering a better future, both for my community and our earth, facing and overcoming challenges as they arise.”

Angel Ortega
Transferred to Cal State Los Angeles from Los Angeles City College. He is majoring in Biology, with a long-term interest in dentistry. He says, “I’m driven by the opportunity to make a real impact through healthcare. Every experience is a chance to grow, learn, and get one step closer to giving back to the communities that shaped me."

Allan-Miguel Soylon
Transferred to Cal State Northridge from Los Angeles City College. He is majoring in Mechanical Engineering, with a long-term interest in the motorsports industry. He says, "I've learned that the path to my goals isn't always a straight one. There may be interesting twists and turns, but I know I will reach them."

Daniel Uhl
Transferred to Cal State Los Angeles from Los Angeles City College, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a focus in Psychology. He is majoring in Psychology with a long-term interest in Sports Psychology. Dan says, "I’ve learned that growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone and stay curious. Education has shown me that there’s always more to learn, more to understand, and more ways to help others unlock their potential."
2024-2026 Scholars

Valerie Gutierrez
Transferred to CSULA from Pasadena City College. She is majoring in Civil Engineering, with a long-term interest in environmental sustainability. Valerie says, "It's okay to be lost and not have everything figured out, as long as you remain open. Open to learning new things, gaining different perspectives, listening to the world around you, and understanding how you can create a better environment for yourself and others."

Charlie Kaing
Transferred to CSULA from Pasadena City College after completing a Research Experience Undergraduate (REU) internship at Carnegie-Mellon over the summer. He is studying computer science, with a desire to work in that field after graduating. Charlie quotes a famous movie as his motivation for seizing opportunities like the REU and FGSF: “Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get.”

Bianca Nava
Transferred to CSULA from Los Angeles City College. She is majoring in Psychology, with a long-term interest in helping underserved populations escape the stigma of mental health challenges. Bianca says, “It's okay not to be able to manage one's problems alone; reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.”
